TRENT REZNOR AND EX-WIFE ON MARILYN MANSON WITNESS LIST
Marilyn Manson wants ex-wife Dita Von Teese and Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor to testify in his upcoming trial against former Manson keyboard player Stephen Bier, according to E! Online. Manson's lawyers in the case have revealed their proposed witness list, which also includes early Manson drummer Fred "Freddie" Streithorst, who played in the band under the name Sarah Lee Lucas. Manson, whose real name is Brian Warner, and Bier, whose stage name was Madonna Wayne Gacy, will also take the stand during the trial, which begins on February 2nd. Bier sued Manson in 2007 for more than $20 million, alleging that Manson refused to share earnings with the band's members, instead using the money to maintain a lavish lifestyle, support his drug habits, and make bizarre purchases such as Nazi memorabilia and the skeleton of a four-year-old Chinese girl. Manson countersued Bier, alleging that he failed to live up to his performing and promotional obligations with the Marilyn Manson band. Manson is currently working on a new album, his first since 2007's Eat Me, Drink Me.
DATES CONFIRMED FOR 2009 ROCK ON THE RANGE, BAMBOOZLE LINEUP FINALIZED
The dates have been announced for the third annual Rock On The Range music festival, with the event taking place on May 16th and 17th at Columbus Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio, where the first two shows were held. No bands have been announced yet for the 2009 lineup. Last year's gig featured 27 groups performing on four different stages, including Finger Eleven, Shinedown, Serj Tankian, Staind, Disturbed, Stone Temple Pilots, Theory Of A Deadman, Five Finger Death Punch, Seether, Kid Rock and others. Drummer Greg Upchurch of 3 Doors Down, who also played at last year's Rock On The Range, told us why he loves playing festivals: "It's just more exciting, especially when you see, like, people crowd-surfing all the way in the back, you know. You don't really see that, especially at a lot of the 3 Doors Down shows. It fires me up to watch bands play before I do -- not like a competition thing, but just to kind of like, 'Okay, I'm at a concert, I'm at a festival.' So I mean, I just love festival shows. It's like family reunions." Meanwhile, the complete lineup for the 2009 edition of the Bamboozle festival has been announced as well. In addition to headliners No Doubt and Fall Out Boy, the main acts include the Used, Taking Back Sunday, Rise Against, New Found Glory, Bloodhound Gang and the Get Up Kids. Bamboozle will take place May 2nd and 3rd in East Rutherford, New Jersey. AUDIO: 3 DOORS DOWN DRUMMER GREG UPCHURCH ON FESTIVALS
DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE GUITARIST WANTS BIGGER SOUND ON NEXT ALBUM
Death Cab For Cutie guitarist Chris Walla told Alternative Press in a new interview that he wants the band's next album to have an even bigger sound than that group's 2008 effort, Narrow Stairs, which was the first Death Cab effort to hit Number One on the Billboard album chart. Walla said, "I have no interest in doing anything that's mild and meek. I want to make a radio record this next time out. There's no reason for us to keep doing what we're doing if we're making meeker, smaller records. I don't particularly have any real connection to a lot of the mellower stuff that Ben (Gibbard, frontman) writes. I really feel like he's getting his best stuff when he's being assertive and forward." Narrow Stairs was Death Cab's sixth album and second for a major label, following 2006's Plans. Walla admits that moving to a big label has influenced his thoughts about the band's music, explaining, "I'm really interested in making something that is appealing on a really broad level and something we can be really satisfied with. But I think that there's a way to bridge those two gaps."
EDDIE VAN HALEN AUCTIONING OFF CLASSIC CARS
Van Halen guitarist Eddie Van Halen is auctioning off two classic Chevrolets from his personal collection of automobiles, according to Blabbermouth.net. The cars will be sold during the 38th annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, which runs from January 11th through the 18th. The 1956 Chevy 210 and 1956 Chevy Nomad will each be accompanied by matching, one-of-a-kind, custom EVH Brand "Wolfgang" guitars and a pair of red, white, and black EVH striped sneakers. Van Halen said in a press release, "Out of all the cars I have owned over the years, I hung onto the '56 Sedan and Nomad because I was closely involved in restoring and building them, so they are very special to me. I almost hate to let them go, but I don't have the time to drive them. It kills me to see them sit there when someone else could be driving them and have the pleasure and joy of owning these beautiful classic cars." The guitarist added that he had the custom guitars built to match the cars to make the auction "even more special." Barrett-Jackson president Steve Davis said in a statement, "The Nomad is restored to original specifications while the 210 is a custom-built street rod with modern performance gear. I expect these cars to enter special collections that salute both rock 'n' roll and automobiles." The Barrett-Jackson event has been called "the world's greatest collector car auction." Much of this year's auction will be broadcast on the Speed channel. Van Halen launched the EVH Brand line of guitars, amps and accessories in 2007 in partnership with Fender. He's slated to debut the new Wolfgang guitar this month, with more info available at evhgear.com. All has been quiet on the Van Halen band front since the reunited group completed a massively successful world tour last summer.
ROB ZOMBIE CELEBRATING NEW 'HALLOWEEN' IN AUGUST
Rob Zombie's upcoming sequel to his 2007 horror hit Halloween, tentatively titled H2, will arrive on August 28th, 2009, according to ComingSoon.net. The first film came out on the same weekend two years ago, on August 31st. That leaves Zombie just under eight months to write, cast, shoot, and edit the picture. Although Zombie does plan out his films in advance, he told us that you can only map out a movie so much before you start shooting: "The hardest thing is, until the moment you're gonna shoot, that'll be the first time you've ever been on set, that set, with your actors in wardrobe, with a camera, you know. So sometimes things just look different. You know, you can visualize in your head, like, 'Well, this, that and the other thing,' but you get in there and you're like, 'Wow, now that we're all here and I see you in that wardrobe against that backdrop, it's very different.'" Zombie has confirmed that Tyler Mane will be back to play hulking serial killer Michael Myers, but has yet to announce any other casting. Shooting is scheduled to begin in March. The rocker-turned-director has posted an early design for Myers' new mask at his MySpace page. Zombie wrote,"If you thought Michael was f***ed before, you ain't seen nothing yet! He is bigger, meaner and more psycho than (film character) Dr. Loomis ever thought possible." Halloween, Zombie's third film as a writer and director, set a box office record for the Labor Day weekend with an initial gross of nearly $31 million. The movie, a remake of the 1978 horror classic, went on to earn nearly $60 million, a personal best for Zombie. AUDIO: ROB ZOMBIE SAYS SHOOTING A FILM NEVER GOES AS PLANNED
SLIPKNOT SINGER MULLING SOLO ALBUM?
Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor is allegedly considering making a solo album, according to Blabbermouth.net, although Taylor's comments on the matter come from the less from reputable World Entertainment News Network. According to their unsourced quote, Taylor said that making a solo CD is "something that I'd like to do purely for myself. It's something that I need to release before I can think about moving on to anything else ... In both Slipknot and Stone Sour I'm slightly limited to how I can write and indeed what I can write about. The beauty of doing a solo album is that I can write whatever type of song I want." Taylor reportedly has a backlog of 40 songs that he could use for such a project. A source at Taylor's record label, Roadrunner Records, told us that Taylor had talked about making a solo album without setting any definite plans. The singer's next record is likely to be the third studio effort from Stone Sour. Even though Taylor does work on different musical projects, he told us there's a trademark style to everything he writes: "I've always tried to write in a very rhythmic manner. Even my spoken word stuff has a certain cadence to it. I can't just sit down and write a lot of time, unless I'm writing a book or a story or something like that. If I'm writing anything close to poetry or prose, there's always a rhythm to it and there's always a cadence." Slipknot's latest release, All Hope Is Gone, has been certified gold for moving more than 500,000 copies since its August 26th arrival. All Hope Is Gone became Slipknot's first Number One debut on the Billboard chart after an unprecedented recount showed that the disc had actually sold 1,134 copies more than The Game's LAX. Initial results had The Game beating Slipknot by a mere 13 copies. The band will begin a new U.S. tour on January 23rd in St. Paul, Minnesota. The 33-city trek will run through mid-March and feature Slipknot's first-ever gig at New York City's prestigious Madison Square Garden. AUDIO: SLIPKNOT'S COREY TAYLOR ON HOW HE WRITES SONGS
